Course Description: This ACA (American Canoe Association) course offers the best-known certification in the US for kayak instruction. The course will strengthen your kayaking skills, provide you with useful teaching methods, and give you a solid foundation for being a whitewater kayak instructor. Prerequisites: Participants should be in good physical health and should be in condition to paddle for long hours. Class III paddling skills, with a solid river roll, are required. Bring the boat you will be teaching in. Generally it is an easier class in a creek or river running boat. Study Kent Ford's "River Runner's Edge" and "Kayak Roll" videos, and the "Kayaker's Playbook" for stroke mechanics and techniques. Videos & book may be purchased or rented through www.performancevideo.com Course includes: Daily instruction. Participants are expected to provide their own lodging and meals, as well as boats and gear. Pre-course assignment: IMPORTANT! - Join ACA online (www.acanet.org) - $40 for individual membership and $25 for Instructor Membership of Safety Education Instruction Committee are required to attend. Bring receipt and ACA number to class. Then review the instruction section of the ACA website, including course registration and reporting, course outlines, and insurance information. You can also order the $25 ACA Instruction Manual (optional). Instructor Updates: Current ACA instructors may join the first two (or on approval last two) days of the class to fulfill their every-4-year update requirements. This option is offered on a space-available basis only. |
